Jesus is Superior to Moses

Pastor: Ben Muresan Series: Hebrews: Christ Is Superior Topic: Hebrews Scripture: Hebrews 3:1–6

The sermon text will be Hebrews 3:1-6.

The letter to the Hebrews was written to encourage persecuted Christians to stand firm in their faith. Their temptation was to abandon their trust in Christ as Lord and Savior and to return to the Older Covenant administration under Judaism. The writer of Hebrews systematically shows how Christ is superior to the Older Covenant because Christ fulfills all the promises God made to Israel. Christ is superior even to Moses, who was greatly respected by the Israelites. Moses was a faithful servant in God’s family, but Christ is the Son, the Redeemer of God’s family. Moses was not sinless; he did not die for his people’s sins, rise, and ascend in glory. To return to the Older Covenant, therefore, is to return to something that was only temporary and is now obsolete because the reality has come. Rather than considering Moses, we are to consider Jesus, our superior Apostle and High Priest.
